Don’t Cross the Bridge Before You Get to the River
Francis Alÿs

A collection of personal notes from Francis Alÿs’s Bridge project.
Grounded in an awareness of immigration issues, the Bridge project was an experiment in harnessing the imagination to create a bridge between two continents.
This book documents Alÿs’s Bridge/Puente in the Gulf of Mexico, and his new large-scale project at the Strait of Gibraltar, Don’t Cross the Bridge Before You Get to the River.
The inimitable expressiveness of this artist’s works present ideas and feelings that anyone can share – even when presented with social issues in faraway places – and in so doing he reveals allegories of the societies we live in ourselves.
Alÿs’s latest collection, the first to be published in Japan.
